Moving Terms
Bill of Lading:--
It is the document of contract between you and the mover which works as
a receipt for your good too. Going through this document is one of your
most important tasks. You are not supposed to sign this document
without reading and understanding what has been written in it.
It comprises of all the information about mover's
liability for your goods, scheduled pickup/delivery time and the
estimates. If any of the points does not satisfy you, do ask questions
to them and sign the document only when you completely agree with it.
Keep it safe with you until you reach your destination and pay the
bill. This will be the document to be compared with the "Original
Condition Report" for losses and damages of goods.
Binding/Non Binding Estimates:--
A binding estimate is a document of agreement made in advance with the
mover on the estimate of cost for moving your goods which is based on
the quantities and services written in it. This estimate mentions all
the services and the total cost. People prefer binding estimates as it
gives no stress of settling the cost later at the time of delivery.
A non binding estimate does not have the agreed total cost. Instead It
has the approximated value of the cost which is finally settled at the
time of delivery. This cost is based on an estimated weight of goods
and services you have requested for. Final charge settlement is based
on the actual weight and the currently effective rate. Typically the
actual charge is far more than the approximated value.
Storage in Transit:--
It is a temporary warehouse where your goods are kept until you reach
you are available at the destination to receive them. Every reputed
international mover has a storage warehouse in almost all major cities.
The need of storage warehouse arises in some adverse situations. For
instance, if the house you have to move in is not quite furnished. You
need to to make a request to the mover for availing this service and it
will incur extra charges. However, the period of storage in transit can
not exceed 90 days.
Van Line:--
The national moving companies are also known as van lines. They are in
the business of transporting articles across the cities states and
countries through their various agents affiliated and authorized by
them for rendering this service. The van lines are involved in right
from dispatching, routing and paperwork to settlement of claims.
C.O.D. (Cash/Collection On Delivery)
The payment for shipment due to be done at the time of delivery is
known C.O.D. Due payment can be paid through cask or certified check at
